"Severus, it's customary. It doesn't matter if they're married." Remus watched as the pastel ribbons wove themselves into a bow. "Besides, the gift is for the baby."

"I know. That doesn't mean I have to approve." Severus opened the "Best Wishes for Baby!" card, read the message, and signed his name. "At least Granger waited a decent interval after leaving school. When I think of all the girls who were pregnant - "

"They got the idea from us, you know," said Remus. "Said if we could do it, so could they."

"No wonder they asked us to be godparents."

"Channukah coins?" Severus stared at the dreidl and bag of foil-wrapped coins. "Honeyduke's stocks these?"

"Harrod's, actually." Remus tossed him the bag and the top.

"You realize this verges on insulting? My relatives would likely prefer Muggle electronics for the gift exchange."

Remus winced. "Sorry, I wasn't thinking." He reached for the geld. "Here, I can return these."

"Oh, no. I need to teach you how to use this." Severus held up the dreidl. "In bed, naked."

"Strip dreidl?" Remus swallowed as the mesh bag brushed across the tip of his nose.

"We'll make our own great miracle," said Severus.

"I can't believe Minerva did this to us." Severus shook pale glitter out of his hair. Two phantom doves twittered near the ceiling, and there was a faint scent of sweet icing clinging to his robes. "A surprise wedding reception?"

"She did warn us about eloping." Remus waved across the room to Harry, who was chatting up Luna Lovegood. "It's only a few hours."

The doves swooped down to rest on their shoulders and cooed. Remus smiled and offered him a glass of champagne.

Severus shivered as their hands touched. "I suppose I can stand it."

His husband laughed. "Good."

Title: An Unwelcome Souvenir

"Here." Severus floated the box over to Remus. "Don't blame me when the branches collapse."

"I'm not putting them all out," said Remus. "Only - bugger. I thought I'd got rid of this one."

Severus peered over his shoulder to see a glass ball labeled "Our First Christmas 1998." Of all the things for Nymphadora to have left!

"Here." He plucked it from Remus's hand and transfigured it into a silver moon. "It should be easier for you to smash like this."

"Rather," said Remus. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes, and chucked the moon into the fire.

The first is Snape-centric and was written for the snape100 challenge "Random book title." The second is a Snupin sequel on the current challenge.

Severus shook out the newspaper and focused on the pre-Christmas ads from Insane Ianthe's Discounts Galore. "I never ran a charity for house elves."

Remus leaned over his shoulder. "She's doing a public service. The least we can do is send her a few galleons."

Severus scowled at him. Granger ran the only sanctuary for displaced elves in Britain, and God knew it was needed after the War.

"If you must," he said at last. "But I don’t want to see the thank you note. Her handwriting is terrible."

Note: this is another mini-sequel to Motherless Child, where Remus and Severus adopt an orphaned werewolf.


The lightning crack brought them both awake. Severus shook hair out of his face as Remus listened, then sprang out of bed. He was back a minute later, a sobbing John cradled against his hip. Severus threw back the covers and scooted against the wall to make room.

"Is he - "

"It's the noise. Hush, love, it's all right, Papa and Daddy are here, you're perfectly safe." Remus eased into bed. "Too close to the moon, poor cub, he's all instinct."

Severus lay back and automatically began stroking the toddler's soft dark curls. "He has time to learn better."

Mon cher Gil -

I've decided to extend my visit with Remus for a few days. He and his partner have a lovely home, and the Highlands are so gorgeous this time of year I'd be silly to leave.

I know you were worried when you found out just who Remi was living with, but you shouldn't. Severus treats him well and he seems happy. I think Jean would be pleased - we sacrificed so much, it's good to see him happy.

I'll see you next week, then. My love to all.

Maggie had hugged him, hard, and Severus had barely managed to extricate himself before she could do more than peck at the air over his shoulder. Mother and son had monopolized the conversation at dinner, so bent on catching up that all Severus had to go was say "Oh, really?" or "Yes" from time to time.

It wasn't until he was chewing his last bite of an excellent steak Diane that Maggie turned to him and asked the question he'd been dreading all night.

"So, Severus. If you don't mind my asking, just what are your intentions toward my son?"
