Severus knocked again, becoming increasingly annoyed. Damn Lupin! He had told the man he would be round at this time to deliver the Wolfsbane. Briefly, he considered leaving, but his conscience prevented him. Cursing under his breath, Severus stomped around the side of the house to see if he could find the wretched wolf in the garden.

Only to stop dead as he rounded the corner to see Lupin, stretched out nude upon a blanket, basking in the early summer sun.

“Dammit, Lupin, you knew I was coming!”

A wolfish grin crossed those scarred features. “Well, you will be soon!”

“Still, did I ever tell you my forefathers were Scottish? I take my heritage very seriously, you know.”

“You mean…?”

“Oh yes. Absolutely nothing worn underneath the kilt.”

“Hm. Perhaps Scotland is acceptable, after all.”

“But what for, Professor?” a foolhardy soul asked.

“Malicious lingering!” Remus shot back “And a further ten points for questioning me!”

The students fled without another word.

A familiar face awaited him around the next corner. “Enjoying it, aren’t you?” Severus smirked.

Remus smiled ruefully, the expression looking a little odd on features polyjuiced into a replica of his lover’s.

“Yes, you win the bet. I’ll wear the lingerie tonight.”

“Allow me,” Remus announced confidently. “Unbeknown to you all, Severus and I are lovers. I shall be able to tell by smell which is him.”

“Idiot!” Snape-on-the-left sneered. “Polyjuice produces an exact replica, scent included. Not that I would expect anyone of your limited intellect to know that.”

“Stupefy!” Remus hexed Snape-on-the-right. “Take him away, he’s the impostor.”

Snape-on-the-left blinked. “How in Merlin’s name did you know?”

Remus sighed. “He’d been in here five minutes and hadn’t insulted me once.”

Lucius stared. “Ah. It appears I may have made a rather embarrassing faux pas,” he admitted, passing Severus that day’s Prophet, with its headline: Mysterious Disappearance of Potions Master.
