“When did you stop believing?” Remus asked softly, looking out the misty window of the dungeons and seeing the moonlight illuminating the freshly fallen snow.

Severus looked incredulous. “By age five I knew better than to believe in Santa Claus.” He returned with a raised eyebrow. “And you? Don’t tell me you still believe.”

Remus nodded in reply. “I do, because he’s given me everything I’ve ever asked him for. Except I can never quite manage to catch a glimpse of him.”

“And what did you ask for last year that you were granted?” Severus wondered skeptically.

“You.” Remus smiled.
