Note: this is set in the Motherless Child timeline. It takes place immediately after Snape and Lupin return from their honeymoon in Salem and is a sequel to yesterday's drabble.
"A silver chafing dish? What, does he think we give elegant brunches on weekends?" Severus rolled his eyes as Slughorn's gift emerged from its box.
"Chafing dishes seem to be the default gift, love." Rumor had it that the punchbowl was they'd received from Harry had almost been a chafing dish.
"We're not keeping it." Severus pulled a card out of the box. "What's this?"
"Addressed to 'Dearest Horace, upon his retirement.'" Severus and Slughorn had never been friends, but this was a bit thick. "This is insulting."
"But not surprising." Severus looked thoughtful. "Here's what we'll do - "
