Title: Blue Christmas
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Challenge: #50 - celebration
Characters: Remus, others implied
Authors Notes: #1 in a series of 5 holiday celebrations over the course of HBP
Remus slumped in his chair and let the conversation wash over him. Christmas at The Burrow was about like he expected, and he wasn't certain why he had been invited other than it gave Molly an excuse to "subtly" encourage him to give in to Tonks.
Celestina Warbeck wailed about "hot, strong love", and Remus closed his eyes, resting his cheek on his fist as he thought about Severus spending Christmas with Pettigrew, who was the main reason why they hadn't been able to meet often these past few months.
Without Severus, Remus didn't feel much like celebrating at all.
Title: Blue Christmas Redux
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Challenge: #50 - celebration
Characters: Severus
Authors Notes: #2 in a series of 5 holiday celebrations over the course of HBP
Severus sat in his chair by the hearth in a parlor devoid of all Christmas cheer. On the wireless, Celestina Warbeck crooned about hot, strong love to keep her warm, and Severus grimaced. His cauldron was indeed all he had to keep him warm, and he would much prefer a werewolf to do the job.
Pettigrew had made wistful noises about a Christmas tree or even just a wreath, but Severus had refused. He wasn't at all merry this season, and he didn't intend to go through the motions for that little rat.
Without Remus, he had nothing to celebrate.
Title: January 9
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Challenge: #50 - celebration
Characters: Severus
Authors Notes: #3 in a series of 5 holiday celebrations over the course of HBP
At two o'clock in the morning, a tapping at his window awoke Severus; he stumbled, bleary-eyed, to admit the owl. It dropped a package on his bed, and he scrounged for a treat, closing up after it had flown away before giving in to curiosity.
He unwrapped a pair of black wool gloves - his were unraveling - and a note that made him snort even as it warmed him to the core. He knew he ought not care so much about a pair of gloves, but they were the closest thing he'd had to a birthday celebration since childhood.
Title: February 14
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Challenge: #50 - celebration
Characters: Snape/Lupin
Authors Notes: #4 in a series of 5 holiday celebrations over the course of HBP
Severus stared down at the plain paper heart with RL + SS written on it. A foolish thing - the kind of Valentine children gave to one another - but he found himself touched by his first Valentine ever. Still, he scowled to cover his worry over Remus' rash behavior. In their positions, they couldn't afford a misstep, no matter how much they loathed being separated.
"You risked discovery just to give me this?" he demanded.
"Not just that," Remus said and pulled him into a deep, searing kiss.
Severus thought he could get used to celebrating Valentine's after all.
Title: March 10
Word Count: 100
Rating: G
Challenge: #50 - celebration
Characters: Remus
Authors Notes: #5 in a series of 5 holiday celebrations over the course of HBP
By ten o'clock that night, Remus forced himself to stop staring out the window in hopes of an owl that wasn't going to come. He'd received cards and trinkets, but it seemed the person he'd wanted to hear from most on his birthday had forgotten.
He sighed and turned away - and heard a tap. He admitted the owl, accepting its burden joyfully.
A new scarf - the same shade of blue as his eyes - and a new text on magical creatures of Eastern Europe. A note that made him smile fondly.
It was the best birthday in years.
