“No, I won’t do it.”
“You must.”
“NO!”
“It’s only for a while, I promise. When this is all over, we can be together again.”
“Severus…”
“Remus, I love you. I always have and always will. I’m yours, forever. Always. But after I kill Dumbledore, it won’t be safe - we will have to remove our memories. A one-word spell will compel us to restore the lost memories, afterwards. And then we can be together, forever.”
“Severus… there are no words…”
“No words except I love you.”

Kneeling before the grave, the old man, grey-haired and gaunt, wept bitterly. As he always did. Tracing his forefinger over the writing on the grave-stone, he hoarsely whispered, “Remus, you were meant to live. We were meant to be together, always.” The wind whispered through the leafless trees, tales of sorrow and loss and despair. Finally, the cemetery-keeper clumsily stood, arthritic knees creaking, and said, “I’ll be back soon, love.”
