Remus Lupin stared at his cup of tea as Severus Snape left the room. Tonks had witnessed other unpleasant exchanges between the two, but the usual venom was stronger than it had been in years. She thought they had moved past their childhood enmity, and was certain she occasionally caught moments of tenderness when no one else was looking. Now though...
"You want to talk about it?"
"There isn't anything to talk about," he sighed. "Severus will never change. He’ll never give up, never surrender. Even if it could make him happy.”
Tonks gaped as she realized what Remus meant.
