29.

The second kiss was much better than the first. It led to others kisses that paved the way to Severus’ bedroom.

Clothing pooled on the floor, a dark shadow in the light from the sliver of moon through the window. Severus trembled from cold and something else as Remus eased inside him. He sucked in a breath at the intrusion. Remus stopped.

“Keep going,” Severus said. “It’s been a long time.”

“Was I the last?”

“Yes, if it matters.”

Remus continued with his task of showing Severus just how compatible they were.

Knockturn Alley was silent, but Severus was not.

30.

“Did you see the Prophet today?”

They sat in front of the fire in Remus’ flat. Each had a glass of fine Muggle scotch.

“I didn’t get the chance,” said Severus. “'Madame Locusta’s' received a large order for contraceptive potion from the 'Scarlet Corset.'”

“I’ve never heard of it.”

“It’s one of Knockturn’s Alley’s premier pits of vice – provided you enjoy women, that is.”

Remus chuckled. “I take it, you’ve never been there?”

“Sweet Circe, no. I have a reputation to uphold.”

They laughed for a moment. Severus sipped his drink. “What was in the Prophet?”

“Hermione released your findings.”

31.

Severus barely heard the rest of Remus’ words, except when Remus mentioned the repeal of the Werewolf Laws. His stomach plummeted.

Without the laws, Remus could live wherever he wished. There was no way he’d remain in Knockturn Alley, not when he had many friends beyond it.

“Severus?”

Severus placed his glass on the table beside his chair and stood up. “I should return home. I left a potion simmering.”

The smile left Remus’ face. “What? Why?” He grabbed Severus’ wrist. “Don’t you want to celebrate?”

“I won’t celebrate your departure, Lupin.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Severus.”

“Idiot,” Severus snapped.

32.

“You have to stop being so insecure,” Remus said, handing Severus his drink back.

“Insecurity has nothing to do with it.”

“Then why do you think I’m going to leave?”

Severus took a pull from the scotch. “Why would you stay? Knockturn Alley is hardly the best residential area in London.”

“No, but it does have one great attraction.”

“If you say that attraction is me, I’ll hex the lips of your face,” Severus warned.

“Fine, then I’ll say it’s the fantastic sex with a wizard who is remarkably like you.”

Remus smile was infectious.

“That’s much better,” said Severus.

33.

Severus awoke as the sun peeked through the curtains. Remus curled against him, warm and solid. This was Heaven. He smiled.

There was movement behind him. Remus kissed his shoulder.

“Sleep well?”

“The best non-potion induced slumber I can remember.” Severus placed his hand over Remus’. Another kiss touched his shoulder.

“I have to testify about the poisoned Wolfsbane today. They’ll use a Pensive to offer my memories of our conversations about it into evidence.”

“I wish I could go with you.”

Remus hugged him. “Knockturn Alley is very comfortable for me, now.”

“For me as well,” agreed Severus. “Now.”
