The whimpering at the door is so faint you almost miss it. Only because you are there alone, unoccupied, and even the fire has gone out can you detect the despairing sound.
You push the door open cautiously, but even so you’re not prepared for the sight of the wolf, bloodied, lying sprawled on your doorstep as if its torn limbs could carry it no further.
You lie down beside him and you lick his wounds, and you thank whatever deity may spare some thought for werewolves that Severus has finally overcome his pride and come to you for succour.
