Trust me, he told you, and like a lovesick fool you agreed.
He’s deprived you of movement, of sight, and now your soul is rent in two between the beast that is you/isn’t you that howls trapped without words and would tear off all its limbs to escape, and the man who tries to calm it.
All senses are heightened – they’re heightened anyway – and you think you discern a metallic sound - as of a knife, perhaps - and you smell the burning of candle wax.
Trust me, he told you softly, stroking your hair.
