Challenge 138: Silence, and a Severus' Birthday Drabble
Notes:  No beta.  Only the second attempt at fic : )

The silence was tense.

Severus inspected the package from all angles, causing Remus to wince slightly at a particularly rough shake.

Finally, after several more wand sweeps and a harsh ‘Finite Incantatem’, Severus turned to face him.

“You do realise my birthday,” he said with a slow drawl, “is now, officially, past.”

It took all of Remus’ lingering restraint to keep from throttling the man. “Perhaps if I could get this information from you – not a Headmaster’s dotty portrait between lemon drops – your present would have been here a bit earlier!”

Judging by the arch of his eyebrow, Snape was unfazed. “Perhaps,” he snarled, “I didn’t wish for werewolves to tromp all over London in pursuit of useless trinkets.”

Remus paused to collect himself, “It wasn’t a problem. I wanted to give you something nice - you deserve it!

"Besides, you know how I feel about holidays.”

“My birthday is hardly a holiday,” the Potion's Master replied with a sneer.

Sighing, Remus reached for the parcel. “If you really don’t want it, I suppose it can be returned.”

Severus slapped back the offending hand.

“Whatever would be the point of taking this thing back now that it’s here, wolf?”

Lupin grinned.

Ooh! I love it! You so capture the nature of these two when they have the privacy to be themselves. Severus can be a tease in his way.

I can only imagine the secret thrill Severus holds inside while he savors his gift--probably a rare occasion to receive one, eh?
