AN: This is my first post here, hope you like...

“Damnit all to hell!” Staying alone at Headquarters with Lupin on a full moon night always made Severus jumpy, and now he had burnt his hand quite badly whilst attempting to prepare a meal - a task he loathed at the best of times. His wand hand. Severus cursed again, then stilled as a large tawny shape sidled round the door and stared at him.

“What do you want?” Severus hissed angrily. “I thought animals preferred raw meat.”

Feeling utterly defenceless, Severus backed away nervously as the beast approached.

And a tongue flicked out, gently, to lick at his wound.

……………………………..

His heartbeat calming slightly, Severus snarled at the wolf “Thank you so much Lupin, I now have to worry about unpleasant parasitic infections as well as a rather large amount of pain.”

Lupin’s eyes were mournful, closer now to Severus than ever. “If you want to help, fetch me some burn salve and a pain potion!” It didn’t work, of course. The lupine form was not well adapted to the opening of cupboards.

It was, however, surprisingly adequate to the task of sitting at Severus’s feet with its head upon his lap, as he stared moodily into the fire later.

……………………………..

“How’s your hand this morning, Severus?” Remus asked, undeterred by the glare that greeted him.

“Painful”. Severus paused. “And – you are recovering adequately from the effects of the transformation?”

“Feel like death, actually.” But he was grinning as he said it. “Why don’t I take a look at that hand, and you can look me out a restorative potion?”

Severus was uncertain, but he thought Remus’s touch…lingered, just a little, as he examined his hand. “There! That’s healing nicely, I think.”

Somehow, the expression in his eyes reminded Severus of the wolf.

But not, he realized, in a bad way.
