“Who here has a Muggle parent?”

In the small class, theirs were the only two hands raised.

“Which is it for you?” Remus asked after class, trotting to keep up.

Severus’s dark eyes flashed. “Father,” he muttered.

“It’s my Mum,” responded Remus, pleased. “Unusual for a Slytherin to study Muggles. What attracted you?”

Severus stopped, stared at him with a sudden intensity that Remus felt in his knees, opened his mouth to speak, and then closed it again. “Easy O,” he said at last.

“We could study together sometime,” Remus suggested, flustered.

A smile ghosted across Severus’s wide mouth.

“Perhaps.”
