a_belladonna's birthday, but it fits this week's challenge, too.
"It's Valentine's Day, Severus."
"Mmm." Severus rustled his morning paper.
"Did you want to do anything special?" Remus asked hopefully. "Dinner out, perhaps?"
"We can't afford it."
"True, but a small splurge-"
"I need the money to buy ingredients if you want the Wolfsbane Potion this month."
Remus fell silent, trying not to be dejected that poverty kept them from enjoying much of anything, even holidays.
"I suppose you wanted a present."
"No, not really."
"Liar." Severus smirked, thinking of the gift he was wearing. "I have a present." He tugged his collar. "But you'll have to unwrap it first."
