Rough cloth abrasive against skin, raw and sensitized. Remus suppressed a moan as the moistened cloth passed over his face one last time. He heard a muffled bump, then a mutter of swearing. A liquid, foul-tasting and thick, was poured into his mouth. He spluttered, coughed.
"Brace yourself," was the gruff instruction, as clothing slithered over his limbs and he was hoisted in the air. Arms holding him firmly against a chest. Stairs and doorways negotiated.
Slowly settled onto a bed. Warm covers drawn over him. Brusque instruction, "Sleep now."
The comfort of monthly routine, an undemonstrative declaration. This tender loving care.
