Title: "In Flanders' Fields…."
Challenge: remembering the fallen
Word Count: 100

"Poppy, sir?"

Remus blinked as the young Muggle handed him a paper flower. He automatically stuffed a few pence into her collection box and hurried to catch up with Severus.

"Remembrance Day," he explained. "I'd forgotten it was the 11th."

"I hadn't. My great-grandfather drowned at Passchendaele. His wife was pregnant with my grandfather." Severus paused as the street went quiet for the two minute silence. "I'm not sure she ever recovered."

"I'm not sure anyone recovers from war." Remus glanced down at his poppy. It was the bright, bright scarlet of fresh blood.

"We should know," said Severus.
